Jeanette Carter
Jeanette M Carter was born in Montana and moved to California at the age of 12. She relocated to New Mexico in 1993 returning to California in 2004 where she currently teaches creative and sewing machine instruction classes. Her interest and fascination of sewing and sewing machines began at the age of 6, when she observed friends of her mother at their sewing machines.
She started sewing when she was in middle school. She has been sewing continuously ever since.
She has been employed by different sewing machine and fabric stores for many years. In 1987 Jeanette began working for a well established sewing machine store in San Jose, California. Although comfortable with her own machine and many of its functions and accessories, she began to learn how to use all the accessories, features and stitches on mechanical and computerized machines, which were fairly new at the time. Using the store's file of sewing machine manuals from the early 1900s, she began to learn how to do many fancy techniques, such as heirloom and cutwork. As part of her employment, she took training sessions from the sewing machine companies, sales representatives, and traveling instructors on various machines and sewing techniques. In answer to all of the questions that the students in her classes asked about machines, needles, techniques and so on, Jeanette created handouts for her students. Later she began writing her first book, which eventually became available in on CD format and is now available as an E Book CD. Jeanette has created and produced three different E Books on CD.
In time, Jeanette also developed and gave her own sewing seminars, demonstrated at shows and fairs, including the New Mexico State Fair for several years. She has also lectured for the local chapter of the American Sewing Guild.
She has also worked as a freelance instructor. She also operated her own sewing and clothing design business for several years.
She currently works as a freelance instructor, giving creative and machine instruction classes. Jeanette continues to sew, creating unique machine embroidery, designing and making garments, creating quilt projects, making items for the home and gifts for friends and family.
She loves sharing with others, so feels that teaching is perfectly suited for her. She is an avid reader, student of the Bible, enjoys travel and learning about other people and their cultures. She also enjoys eating, cooking, and collecting recipes from different countries. She only wishes there were more time to do everything!
